“So many people live their lives not knowing the real and exact reasons why they live. They follow anything for something, and they do something for anything. When you live life with a blurry vision, you live a blurry life. Vision is life, and a life without vision is a dead life.”
― Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
“We are here to experience life in the physical and to live life fully. We’re not here to renounce the physical and live like we would on the other side. There would be no point in coming here if that was the case. That’s why I implore you to relax, just relax, be who you are, allow your soul to express itself. You will fail. You will stumble. Love yourself through all of it.”

I was in meditation when the guides said to me: “HELP LOCALLY, TO HEAL THE WORLD GLOBALLY.”
The guides demonstrated this by showing me coloured circles of various sizes. These represented local communities all over the world. Each of these circles started out small and grew bigger and bigger as more people contributed to helping those within their individual circle. The circles then started to overlap one another. This went on until the whole world was fully encased in one beautiful circle of healing love.
Can you see this as clearly as I can? Imagine everyone contributing to their local community and how this could spread to cover the entire world. Imagine this level of compassion for all beings: human, animal, and environmental. Energetically it feels so full of love and hope.
This image fits beautifully with what the guides said is the theme of 2021: Building Communities.
Shortly after my meditation, I began researching volunteer opportunities in Calgary (the city where I live). I was surprised by the variety of skills needed for a diverse set of opportunities. For example, some organizations need volunteers who have IT and computer skills – which I had never thought of before! I think we tend to believe that volunteering is simply working a shift at a soup kitchen (which it can be) but there are also so many other opportunities that require different skills and abilities. Whatever your unique skill set, there is a need for what you have to offer.
In my search, I was also surprised to learn that the time required to volunteer can vary greatly based on what a certain organization needs. It may be as little as a few hours a month or as much as 30 hours a week.

In my search, I came across a number of quotes from the author, Ernest Agyemang Yeboah, that deeply inspired me. I’ve selected a few to share as I think he captures many important community-minded ideas.
“You have your reasons to say what you have to say; I have my reasons to say what I have to say.
You have your reasons to do what you have to do; I have my reasons to do what I have to do.
You have your reasons to think the way you think; I have my reasons to think the way I think.
You have your reasons to think the way you think; I have my reasons to think the way I think.
You have your reasons to think the way you think; I have my reasons to think the way I think.
You have your reasons to act the way you choose to act; I have my reasons to act the way I choose to act.
You have your reasons to appear the way you appear; I have my reasons to appear the way I wish to appear.
Life is all about reasons. If you have your reasons, I also have my reasons. The most important thing is that we must all reason from our reasons to get the best reason.”
― Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
“If God gives you a seed, He expects you to plant it; if He plants it for you, He expects you to water it; if He waters it for you, He expects you to prune it; if He prunes and keeps it for you, He expects you to harvest it; if He harvest it for you, He expects you to store it; if He stores it for you ,He expects you to keep it safe from getting rotten and if He keeps it from getting rotten for you, He expects you to account for the seed. Yes! Life is all about purposefully fulfilling a purpose. We are expected to be doing something at each moment in our life or we live without purposefully living.”
― Ernest Agyemang Yeboah, The Untapped Wonderer In You: dare to do the undone
“There are so many people whose minds do not belong to them. There are so many people whose thoughts have been purchased by people. There are so many people who have made people kings and queens of their thought. There are so many people who cannot sleep because of people. There are so many people whose lives are a small percentage of their own self and a greater percentage of others. When the offenses of people occupy your mind, your mind becomes the offenses of people instead of your own mind. To have your own mind and to be your own self, free your mind!”
― Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
“We all have different perspectives to life. We all do take different decisions in life each day based on our convictions. We may take wrong or right decisions knowingly and or unknowingly. We may regard the decisions of others as right or wrong. We may have a right or wrong reason(s) to judge others. We have a choice to condemn or uplift others regardless of their situation. May we, instead of finding reasons to condemn, find reasons to uplift others.”
― Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
“Life is good! It is only our thoughts, choices and actions towards the situations we meet in life each moment of time that makes life look bad! The same bad situation in life that makes one person think badly inspires another to do a noble thing! The same good situation in life that makes one person feel so good to get into a bad situation inspires another person to create another good situation because of the good situation. It is all about thoughts, choices and actions! Life is good! Live it well!”

I’ve decided to commit myself to one organization for now. I am choosing to help at Mustard Seed in Calgary by helping serve meals. This organization touched me. Over time I could see myself working with additional organizations, but it all begins with one small step. I’m excited to get involved in my community in this way and to provide for others in ways that I am able.
For those who may not be able to volunteer their time, perhaps you have something else to offer. Or maybe like me you didn’t realize the vast variety of volunteer options out there. I invite you to consider what “help locally to heal globally” means to you and to as Ernest Agyemang Yeboah writes, remember
“Life is all about purposefully fulfilling a purpose.”
